In his new book, "The McCluskey Boys: Adventures in an Indian Boarding School", Murt McCluskey vividly describes his life and times at the Cut Bank Boarding School north of Browning in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Now retired from a 30-year teaching career, including 14 years as the Director of Indian Education for the Great Falls School System, McCluskey harkens back to the final years of a Native American education system that placed more emphasis on assimilating Indian children into Western culture and values than providing them with a quality education.

Life at the boarding school was harsh and sometimes cruel. It was a place where children were not allowed to leave to visit their families except for the Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and summer holidays, and where the food was adequate but just barely. (Reprinted from The Great Falls Tribune)

The book contains 100 short stories.
